Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Middle Qingbaikouan (Middle Tonian), Qb (50)

Province:
Jiangxi

Type Locality and Naming

Northwest corner of Jianxi. The Dongliukeng Formation was named by Xu Bei in 1987. The typical section is located at Dongliukeng village east of Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province. Upper formation in Xiushui Gr.

Lithology and Thickness

The Dongliukeng Formation is subdivided into two lithologic parts. Lower part is mainly composed of gray mega-bedded feldspathic litharenite intercalated with slate. The lower part has medium-to thick-bedded rhythmites with Bouma sequences, with abundant flute casts at the bottom. Upper part is dark gray medium-to thin-bedded silty slate. The rhythmites in the upper part are usually thinner than in the lower part, with the c, d, e members of the Bouma sequence (especially d, e members), which represents the bathyal to abyssal flysch facies. The formation is more than 120 m thick.

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey sandstone
